Hello! My name is

Andrea Scaglioni

Since February 2026, I have been a software developer at RIEGL Laser Measurement Systems. I work on the geolocation algorithms and GNSS data processing the company uses in its cutting-edge LiDAR technology

From October 2024 to September 2025, I have been a postdoc researcher in computational mathematics at University of Vienna (Univie).

In October 2024 I received a Ph.D. degree from the Technical University of Vienna (TU Wien). In 2019 I received a master’s degree in computational science and engineering from EPFL (Switzerland).

During my time in academia, I focus on uncertainty quantification of partial differential equations (PDEs). I used high-dimensional interpolation methods and reduced-order modelling to produce fast, reliable, and precise surrogate models of the random solution. I applied these methods to the simulation of stochastic dynamic micromagnetic systems.

News

  • Since the 1st of February 2026, I have been working at RIEGL Laser Measurement Systems! I work on geolocation algorithms and GNSS data processing. I am thrilled to discover new topics and show what I learned during my time at university as a student and researcher.
  • From October to December 2025, I have been job hunting. My time as an unemployed person has brought me significant personal growth and allowed me to come to know myself better. Being rejected by potential employers after having invested years in my education has been humbling and painful. Despite the challenges, I feel fortunate to have people around me who genuinely care and support my progress!
  • On the 1st of September 2025, I gave a presentation on “Surrogate and reduced-order modelling in stochastic dynamic micromagnetics” at the Annual ÖMG-DMV Meeting, held at JKU in Linz. Find my slides at this link
  • On the 26th of May 2025, I had the pleasure of giving a presentation on “Surrogate and reduced order modelling of the stochastic LLG equation” at the 14th International Symposium on Hysteresis Modelling and Micromagnetics (HMM 2025) in Torino (Italy). Thanks to the organisers for coordinating this diverse meeting! I love exchanging ideas and perspectives on magnetic materials and hysteresis phenomena with engineers and physicists. Find my slides at this link.
  • On the 15th of May 2025, I attended two career events: the TU.day at TU Wien and the Tech and AI Job Fair organised at a WKO location in Vienna. Thanks to the organisers for offering this great opportunity to connect with and discuss companies. And thanks to the speakers of the second event for delivering expert talks from which I could take home a lot!
  • On the 8th and 9th of May 2025, I took part in the Austrian Numerical Analysis Days at the Paris-London University, Salzburg. Numerical analysis is, in my opinion, very well represented in Austria by a varied community with a range of different expertises. I am proud of having received my PhD in this country!
  • On the 28th of February 2025, I had the pleasure of supporting the Austrian Association of Women in Mathematics (A2WiM) as one of two event photographers at the Austrian Day of Women in Mathematics meeting hosted at TU Wien (my Alma Mater)! I particularly enjoyed gaining career insights for both academia and industry. It was wonderful to connect with industry guests from D-Fine and Deloitte.
  • On the 21st of October 2024, I successfully defended my Ph.D. thesis at TU Wien! Thanks to all those who helped me get here in different ways! My dissertation is publicly available here.
  • Since the 1st of October 2024, I have been a postdoc in the group of Prof. Ilaria Perugia at University of Vienna (Univie). Looking forward to meeting the new colleagues and setting up new collaborations!
  • On the 30th of September 2024, I’m giving a presentation titled “Sparse grid approximation of stochastic PDEs: application to stochastic micromagnetics” at the High-dimensional methods in stochastic and multiscale PDEs workshop held at TU Wien (Austria). See the page of the workshop.
  • If you are a VSM student at TU Wien and want to gain valuable event organisation experience, you should become part of the VSM Student Board! Get in touch or drop by. I’m happy to tell you more!

  • On the 29th of September and 1st of October 2024, the VSM event “Workshop on Career Outside of Academia” takes place at TU Wien. Thanks to the TU Career Center for holding the course. In the afternoon on 1.10, five industry guests participate in a panel discussion. Being part of the organising committee, I’m delighted we made this event happen!
  • On the 11th of September 2024, I’m presenting on “Sparse grid approximation of nonlinear SPDEs: The Landau–Lifshitz–Gilbert equation” at the Sparse Grid and Applications seminar held at Bonn University (Germany). You can read more on the Event Programme
